Annotatsiya

This article highlights the importance of the linguodidactic approach to comparing proverbs in English and Uzbek, forming their synonymous dictionary through exercises-applications (practical tasks). Proverbs are an important genre of oral folk art that reflect each nation's national thinking, philosophy of life, and culture in the form of short, wise sayings. Based on the semantic and functional equivalence of English and Uzbek proverbs, comparing and translating them, and using them in foreign language teaching can help develop learners' intercultural competence. The article proposes the study of semantic equivalence – proverbs that express the same idea in different ways – and functional equivalence – proverbs that fulfill the same communicative function. As a result, exercises based on proverb analysis serve not only language acquisition but also understanding of cultural values. Thus, the article demonstrates effective ways to use proverbs in the linguodidactic process. This approach enriches students’ thinking, helps them grasp abstract concepts, and increases motivation in language learning. Tasks based on proverbs also encourage mutual discussion and creative thinking.
