This article explores the philosophical, historical, and methodological underpinnings of hermeneutics, emphasizing its relevance in cross-cultural contexts. It traces the evolution of hermeneutical thought from classical and religious exegesis to modern interpretations influenced by Hans-Georg Gadamer and Paul Ricoeur. Hermeneutics transcends disciplinary boundaries, holding special significance in linguistic studies, literary criticism, and translation studies. Furthermore, the paper highlights hermeneutics’ role in multilingual and multicultural societies, where cross-linguistic challenges often involve the negotiation of meaning, context, and intercultural competence. By engaging recent scholarship, including perspectives on language contact, bilingualism, and translation strategies, this work underscores hermeneutics as a unifying framework for understanding and interpreting texts. Finally, the article identifies contemporary debates and future directions, urging practitioners to adopt a more holistic and nuanced approach in the era of globalization and digitalization.
