The article deals with the problem of the theory of proverbs and methods of teaching proverbs of the English language. Proverbs, as a kind of paremiological cliche, are a national treasure. They are used in the appropriate linguistic situation. Proverbs are characterized by imagery, colorfulness, completeness of thought, etc. The images preserved by the internal form of proverbs allow us to expand and deepen the understanding of culturally significant meanings that are clearly connected in the minds of native speakers with individual lexemes or even whole synonymous series of words. Proverbs are interesting as a means of learning the national character of a people, penetrating into the system of its values, as a repository of diverse cultural information. The proverb as a reflection of folk wisdom, history, and the peculiarities of linguistics contributes to the formation of students’ imaginative thinking, the development of speech skills. The proverb is the object of linguistic theoretical and linguistic methodological research. Both sides of its research are of great practical importance. Scientists have a lot in common and individual understanding about the definition of the proverb. Linguistic theoretical in general and comparative in particular, the analysis and description of proverbs provides material for a linguodidactic description and its material implementation in the educational process.
