This article examines the linguistic and extralinguistic features of graphic communication in internet language, understood as text-based interaction intensified by visual and technological cues. Internet discourse is treated as a hybrid mode that reproduces many properties of spoken conversation under conditions of written fixation and high exchange speed. Theanalysis identifies recurrent linguistic patterns at the graphic, lexical and pragmatic levels, including emoji/emoticons, expressive punctuation, capitalization play, letter repetition, abbreviations and memetic templates and explains their functional roles in emotional marking, contact maintenance and identity construction. Extralinguistic determinants include platform affordances (interface tools and constraints), synchronicity, temporal pressure, anonymity/visibility regimes, multimodality and audience design; these factors directly shape what graphic resources become conventional within particular communities. The findings support the view that “graphic expressivity” in online interaction functions as a compensatory semiotic subsystem for prosody and nonverbal behavior, while also serving as a strategic resource for self-presentation and in-group alignment. The study concludes that norm deviation in online writing is primarily an adaptive response to mediated communication conditions rather than a random deterioration of language standards.
