This article analyzes international legal norms regulating the rights of citizens and stateless persons (apatrides). Primary focus is directed toward the content and practical significance of the 1954 Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons and the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness. The article covers mechanisms for preventing statelessness, legal guarantees for stateless persons, and issues of gender equality. Additionally, it summarizes modern results achieved in the elimination of statelessness within the framework of initiatives by international organizations, particularly the UN and UNHCR.
