Annotatsiya

This article examines the visual representation of women scholars in the periodical press and photographic archives of Soviet Uzbekistan between 1946 and 1991. The article explores how women scholars were visually constructed as researchers, state and public figures, family members, and symbols of the achievements of Soviet modernization. It argues that press photographs did not merely document social reality but also functioned as ideological instruments that shaped official conceptions of the “emancipated woman of the East,” upward social mobility, and gender equality.
