This article explores the artistic function of metonymic expressions in the work of Ulugbek Hamdam, a representative of modern Uzbek poetry. Metonymy is analyzed as an aesthetic factor that shapes figurativeness and poetic thinking, in addition to being a means of language. Through metonymic images such as” Adam“,” country of suffering“,” country of suffering“,” father–mother, Homeland“, which are found in poems such as” country of suffering", "song about the motherland", personal forgiveness, historical memory and social relations are described. The article bases metonymy in the poet's language on the deepening of the content layers of the poetic text in harmony with other artistic means – metaphor, personification and Synecdoche. Analysis shows that in Ulughbek Hamdam's poetry, metonymy is actively used not only as a pictorial tool, but also as a means of implying an internal state of mind.
