The article provides a comparative linguistic analysis of the names of animals belonging to the families of even-toed ungulates and even-toed ungulates found in the ancient Turkic manuscripts of the 11th–14th centuries, including Devonu lug‘otit turk (Turkish Dictionary of Languages), Codex Kumanikus (Comanic Dictionary) and Tarjuman turk (Turkish Dictionary) by Mahmud Kashgari, and discusses their adequate translations into modern English. While those of these zoonyms that are presented in the form of a complete dictionary have been translated and subjected to comparative semantic analysis, those that are presented in the form of proverbs, wisdoms and poetic fragments, considered as literary genres, have been enriched with detailed explanations and definitions. The lexical and semantic features of the names of animals taken from the manuscripts for comparative analysis, in particular, even-toed ungulates and odd-toed ungulates, are discussed in detail. In the comparative analysis, especially in the most accurate translation into English, the English Etymological Dictionary, dedicated to the etymology of ancient Turkic languages, as well as the most popular explanatory dictionaries recognized throughout the world, were used.
