This article analyzes the reforms implemented in recent years to improve the probation system, with particular emphasis on the social adaptation of offenders and the prevention of recidivism. It examines the content, legal foundations, and practical application of the institution of pretrial probation in foreign countries such as Moldova and Kazakhstan. Special attention is given to socio-psychological assessment as a tool for rehabilitation, social adaptation, and the prevention of repeat offenses. Based on the comparative analysis conducted, the article formulates recommendations for enhancing national probation legislation.
