The article examines the ontological and epistemological characterization of the concept of virtual space, with particular attention paid to the views of both foreign and domestic scholars. From an informatics perspective, ontology is interpreted as a conceptual schema of a specific field of knowledge, and the virtual space that aspires to such a status is analyzed in detail. Special emphasis is placed on specific features of the “object–knowledge” relationship within virtual space.
