This article explores the functional features of irony in Jane Austen’s novel Pride and Prejudice. The study analyzes the artistic, social, and psychological functions of irony, emphasizing how Austen’s distinctive narrative style reveals her critical attitude toward social norms and gender roles of her time. Irony in Austen’s prose is not merely a source of humor but serves as a tool for social critique and moral reflection. Through the use of narrative irony, dialogues, and character interactions, the author exposes hypocrisy, class prejudice, and superficial morality. The paper concludes that irony in Austen’s work functions as both an aesthetic and ethical device that shapes the reader’s perception of society and human nature.
