This article analyzes the theoretical and practical foundations of the concept of personal investigation. The author highlights the legal definitions of "personal investigation", its place in the system of internal affairs bodies, and its significance in detecting and exposing crimes. Approaches from various sources are analyzed, and generalized scientific conclusions regarding the essence and practical application of personal investigation are presented. Additionally, the professional knowledge and skills required for the effective application of this method are discussed.
