This article analyzes the role and significance of the debate technique in developing communicative competence in English language teaching. In particular, it reveals the theoretical and practical foundations of using the debate method to improve the language skills of students majoring in management. Based on the communicative approaches proposed by D. Nunan (1991) and J. Harmer (2007), the linguistic, social, and strategic benefits of debates are demonstrated with relevant examples. Special attention is paid to analyzing different types of debates and evaluating their didactic value and pedagogical effectiveness.
