This article provides a systematic analysis of the specific nature of conducting investigative journalism and the challenges of ensuring the safety of journalists and their sources during the information-gathering process. The main types of risks faced by journalists and sources—physical, legal, psychological, and digital security—are explored in relation to real-life practice, and existing global threats are classified. Practical recommendations and protection mechanisms based on international standards from organizations such as UNESCO, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Reporters Without Borders (RSF), and ARTICLE 19 are studied. The article also analyzes the legal framework in Uzbekistan regarding the safety of journalists and information sources and evaluates its compliance with international standards through practical examples. In the conclusion, the authors propose integrated solutions to strengthen the comprehensive protection of journalists and sources, drawing on both international and national best practices.
