The article provides a detailed analysis of the process of irrigation and land reclamation in Uzbekistan during the period 1950-1990, with a particular focus on the role of the cotton monopoly. Moreover, the article provides an analysis of the Soviet government's measures to improve the irrigation system and the results thereof, drawing upon primary sources. During this period, the primary objective of the development of irrigation and land reclamation projects in the republic was inextricably linked with the process of developing reserves and grey lands.
