This article addresses relevant issues related to the existence of parallel imports as an instrument of international trade and a means of increasing the availability of goods. Parallel importation refers to the importation of original products without the consent of the rights holder, raising numerous legal issues concerning intellectual property protection, competition, and consumer rights. The legal regulation of parallel imports in countries such as the European Union, the United States, and Japan is analyzed. Key aspects affecting the legal status of parallel imports, such as the principle of exhaustion of rights, trademark and patent protection, as well as product quality control, are presented. Special attention is given to the peculiarities of law enforcement practices and various restrictions in specific industries.
