The creative and critical thinking skills of young people are often considered synonymous, with both competencies being necessary for approaching everyday problems. Problem-based learning environments in educational institutions are effective tools for developing these skills. This article explores the problem-oriented approach, including its philosophy, general characteristics, and the roles of teachers and students in a problem-based learning environment. It also discusses the advantages and limitations of this approach compared to others. From a science-based learning design perspective, problem-based learning is then examined.
