This article highlights issues of legal regulation and improvement of the institution of compulsory medical measures. The author analyzes the current regulations in this area and considers the grounds for the court to apply compulsory medical measures to persons who have committed socially dangerous acts. Particular attention is paid to the purposes and types of compulsory medical measures, the general grounds for their use, as well as the procedure for assigning, extending, changing and terminating their action. The article also emphasizes that the commission of socially dangerous actions by persons suffering from mental disorders, alcoholism, drug addiction or substance abuse poses a threat to the rights and freedoms of others, the interests of society and the state, and can also negatively affect the environment, peace and security.
