The article discusses the ways of developing small business and private entrepreneurship as key factors of economic growth and poverty reduction. It analyzes the results of the implementation of the "New Uzbekistan" development strategy for 2022-2026, which provides for increasing the share of the private sector in GDP to 80% and exports to 60%. The author emphasizes the importance of state support for small businesses, including the creation of 200 new industrial zones, the development of business incubators and the improvement of mechanisms for supporting entrepreneurs. The key stages of the formation of small business in Uzbekistan since independence, as well as legislative and economic measures that contribute to its development are considered. Data are provided on the contribution of small business to the economy, including its share in exports and manufacturing industries. Particular attention is paid to the importance of small business for the modernization of production, increasing competitiveness and introducing innovations. The problems associated with restrictions on enterprise growth due to the preservation of preferential statuses are considered. The author proposes measures to stimulate the growth of small businesses, including tax incentives, strengthening cooperation with large enterprises and simplifying participation in public procurement. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of further support for small businesses for the country’s sustainable economic development.
