The article discusses experimental studies demonstrating the effect of the destruction of the third body on the tribological characteristics of interacting surfaces when using the selected lubricant. It is established that the degree of destruction of the third body significantly affects the coefficient of friction and the intensity of wear, worsening the operating conditions of the surfaces, causing their instability, catastrophic wear, vibrations, noise and changes in microgeometry. Modern methods for calculating power and thermal loads, coefficient of friction and wear rate are insufficiently informative and accurate for heavily loaded surfaces where direct contact and setting are observed. Under such conditions, the probability of destruction of the third body increases, which leads to increased shear forces, adhesion and fatigue wear, increasing the instability of friction forces and causing additional vibrations and noise.
