Annotatsiya

Slang annotation requires evidence about a lexical expression, its contextual meaning and the circumstances of its use. A young speaker, an unfamiliar spelling or an online setting cannot independently justify a slang label. The article specifies criteria for selecting English and Uzbek youth-language material for digital discourse annotation. A qualitative contrastive analysis covers nine deliberately selected cases: four English and five Uzbek examples drawn from publisher-authorised fiction, a distributor-verified film quotation, a lexicographic account and a cited dissertation. Each case receives a source description, a target expression, a contextual paraphrase and an assessment of the evidence supporting its proposed register. The analysis separates lexical status from borrowing, contraction, figurative interpretation, metalinguistic mention and speaker-age information. In the English material, the footwear sense of kicks has independent lexicographic support, whereas C’mon records conversational reduction. The disputed fetch proposal in Mean Girls concerns acceptance of a word, and Oxford’s account of rizz supplies evidence of circulation beyond an individual utterance. The Uzbek cases expose different evidential problems. Beton permits a contextually supported interpretation of personal influence; ketvorgan conveys favourable evaluation in represented dialogue; tavsuyu exhibits lexical recombination whose wider adoption remains unverified. Post qildim and layk bosvoringlar identify platform activity and informal grammatical expression without independently establishing a slang register. The resulting annotation procedure records the source, contextual meaning, register evidence, usage mode and age provenance in separate fields. It retains a candidate label when conventionality lacks confirmation and distinguishes missing evidence from an established negative decision. The comparison yields an auditable procedure for preparing English and Uzbek data before automatic classification. The selected cases support analytical distinctions, without estimating current usage rates or model performance. Literary dialogue and reported internet examples remain distinct from messages whose authors and age groups have been documented. Slang status and eligibility for a youth corpus therefore require separate decisions.
