Some contemporary Uzbek short stories are written in a realistic style, portraying the thoughts and emotions of their characters, expressions of kindness and mutual care, and romantic relationships among young people. Other stories are characterized by profound symbolism and explore fundamental questions concerning the origins of the world and the meaning of human existence. This article presents a comparative analysis of the symbolic short story A Cup of Water (Bir piyola suv) by Ulugbek Hamdam, a representative of contemporary Uzbek literature, and the parable The Fish Searching for Water (Suv izlagan baliqlar), included in Alisher Navoi's epic poem Saddi Iskandari. The analysis seeks to reveal the thematic and artistic significance of both works.
