Annotatsiya

This article examines the semantic and pragmatic features of telemedicine terminology in English and Uzbek, with particular attention to communicative functions and equivalence relations in translation. The rapid development of digital health requires accurate, consistent, and pragmatically appropriate Uzbek equivalents for such terms as telemedicine, telehealth, remote patient monitoring, virtual consultation, store-and-forward, e-prescription, and digital triage. The study employs comparative-semantic, contextual, and componential analyses, along with terminological analysis and translation-oriented methods. The findings indicate that English–Uzbek telemedicine terminology exhibits full and partial equivalence and involves such translation and adaptation strategies as borrowing, calquing, descriptive translation, and contextual adaptation. The analysis further demonstrates that preserving dictionary meaning alone does not ensure communicative adequacy: the clinical context, text genre, target audience, and level of terminological competence influence the selection of an appropriate equivalent. The findings highlight the need to balance semantic precision, conciseness, unambiguity, and comprehensibility for end users when standardizing Uzbek telemedicine terminology.
