The article examines the application of traditional maqom principles in the composition “Reflections of the East” by Alim Mullaev, particularly focusing on the maqom Iroq. The study covers the key elements of maqom structure such as form, mode, rhythm (usul), heterophony, microtonality, and features of performance practice. Special attention is given to the section Tasnifi Iroq, which is analyzed through its pitch organization and rhythmic structure. The author investigates how traditional maqom elements have been preserved and interpreted in a modern context, highlighting their innovative use to create a unique sound. The role of instruments, such as the tanbur, and their influence on modal organization is also discussed, along with the application of microtones, which adds a distinct tonal color to the composition. A key aspect of the work is the introduction of the performance technique “nola”, which enlivens notes and creates expressive transitions between sounds. The article emphasizes the synthesis of tradition and innovation, characteristic of Mullaev's contemporary musical language.
