Relevance. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts are the most common eye diseases in elderly patients worldwide. Purpose of the study. To identify the main risk factors for the progression of age-related macular degeneration after surgical treatment of age-related cataract. Materials and methods. The data of 482 patients (527 eyes), aged 50-80 years, who underwent VC extraction were analyzed. Among these patients, in 30.6±2.0% (161 eyes) of cases, the operated eye had signs of dry AMD. All patients had concomitant somatic diseases. For further study of the effect of VC extraction on the development and dynamics of AMD, 225 (281 eyes) patients were selected by the nested selection method, from which 2 main groups were formed - A and B. Results and conclusion. The most significant factors indicating the risk of development or rapid progression of AMD in patients with VC after its removal and IOL implantation are a history of atherosclerosis, BMI over 30, the presence of medium-sized drusen in the fundus, serum HDL levels less than 1.0 mmol/lor LDL levels over 3.3 mmol/l and other risk factors.
