Ulcerative colitis (UL) is a chronic inflammation of the large intestine, which occurs mainly among working-age youth and has social significance. The incidence and prevalence of ulcerative colitis worldwide is 1.2-20.3% and 7.6-245 cases per 100,000 population per year, respectively. European studies have described the impact of ulcerative colitis on the quality and standard of life of patients, their employment, and their relationships with others. Late diagnosis of the disease, severe and complicated forms indicate its latent course.
