For the first time, the features of the nucleation and further growth of nano- and micro-sized tubes based on C60 fullerene with a hexagonal shape, obtained by evaporation of an isolated drop of a solution of C60 in ethylbenzene-isopropyl alcohol solvent located on a smooth surface of a silicon substrate, were studied. The morphological and dimensional characteristics of the obtained C60-based nanotubes were determined at two different concentrations of fullerene (∼2.4 and ∼2.2 gram/liter) in the initial drops. It was shown that the cross section of the nanotube has a hexagonal shape and the values of the large and smaller diagonals of the hexagon are ∼900 nm and ∼780 nm, respectively, at a concentration of C60 ∼ 2.2 gram/liter. In addition, it was found that the outer wall of a C60 fullerene nanotube with a width of ~100−120 nm is monocrystalline and smooth, and the inner wall of a nanotube with a width of ~70−90 nm is porous. The main physical features of the nucleation and growth of a C60 nanotube inside an evaporating drop are discussed.
