The technique of 3D conformal proton therapy was developed at the Medico-Technical Complex of the Laboratory of Nuclear Problems of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research to irradiate tumours seated in the vicinity of radiosensitive vitals. In this technique the maximum of delivered dose distribution coincides with the target form with high accuracy. Also the dose decreases very rapidly at the target boundaries. It gives an opportunity to irradiate localizations which could not be treated with the traditional radiotherapy. In this article the main technological stages of the treatment planning and irradiation with the developed technique are presented.
