Annotatsiya

This article presents a systematic analysis of methods and strategies for translating metaphorical names of celestial bodies from English into Uzbek in astronomical texts. The study draws on Lakoff and Johnson's Conceptual Metaphor Theory and the classical translation strategies proposed by Vinay and Darbelnet. The research examines the main types of metaphorical transfers in astronomical nomenclature: mythological, zoomorphic, anthropomorphic, and artifact-based metaphors. Five primary translation methods are identified: transliteration, calquing, descriptive translation, functional substitution, and combined approaches. Special attention is given to the cognitive aspects of perceiving metaphorical terms in English and Uzbek linguocultures. Analysis of specific examples demonstrates that the choice of translation strategy depends on multiple factors, including text type, target audience, and the availability of established terminological equivalents. The study emphasizes the necessity of a flexible approach to translating scientific terminology and developing a standardized Uzbek astronomical nomenclature.
