Annotatsiya

This study examines the cognitive–semiotic and pragmatic characteristics of cyberlexicon in English and Uzbek Internet discourse. Drawing on corpus samples from social media, forums, and news comments (2018–2025), we analyze how users conceptualize and signal digital practices through lexical innovation (blends, acronyms, borrowings), multimodal signification (emojis, hashtags, memes), and interactional pragmatics (stance- taking, politeness, alignment). Using a mixed method—qualitative frame and metaphor analysis plus quantitative frequency and collocation profiling—we show: (i) English cyberlexicon is driven by productive affixation (e-, cyber-, -ware, -verse) and ASCII/emoji pragmemes, while Uzbek cyberlexicon relies heavily on English borrowings adapted to Uzbek morphology (login qilmoq, like bosmoq) and Cyrillic/Latin code-mixing; (ii) emojis and hashtags function as gradient illocutionary force markers and cohesion devices; (iii) pragmatic compression (TL;DR, IMO) and memetic templates index community norms and gatekeeping. Cross-linguistically, Uzbek exhibits higher rates of hybrid verb formation and orthographic variability, whereas English shows greater density of acronyms and multimodal sequencing. We propose a cognitive–semiotic model linking frames of connectivity, speed, and play to pragmatic outcomes such as facework mitigation and engagement optimization.
