Among of patients who infected with SARS-CoV-2, ischemic stroke occurs in many of them, especially during the acute period of the disease. The main inducing factor for this pathological process is the hyperproduction of cytokines and the imbalance of the coagulation process in the pathogenesis of COVID-19, which leads to causing hyperthrombosis, arterial embolization and hypoperfusion in the blood vessels of the brain by causing hypercoagulability, blood circulation disorders, and complication such as ischemic stroke. Although the mechanism of ischemic stroke in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 has not been clearly studied, the aim of our research is to investigate the rs1800795 polymorphism of pro-inflammatory IL-6 cytokine gene and the angiogenesis-related VEGF gene rs2010963 polymorphisms in the development of this condition. Our aim is to determine the association between the occurrence of ischemic stroke induced by COVID-19 in patients carrying the minor allele of these polymorphisms.
