This article presents observations on the first translation dictionaries in Uzbek lexicography, in particular, Russian-Uzbek dictionaries, mainly two dictionaries compiled under the leadership of Ashurali Zohiriy and Abdulla Qodiriy. The methods of interpreting vocabulary in the dictionaries and the methods used in interpreting vocabulary in these two dictionaries are comparatively discussed.
