Proverbs, as one of the ancient and meaningful genres of folk oral literature, have been widely studied in various disciplines - linguistics, folklore, cultural studies, philosophy and psychology. A number of theoretical approaches have been developed to reveal the content, form, role in speech, national and univer- sal characteristics of these units. Each approach approaches the layers of meaning of proverbs from different points of view, illuminating their multifaceted essence.
