The concept of “mother” occupies a central position in literary discourse as a universal yet culturally specific phenomenon. This study explores the national and cultural representation of the “mother” concept in the works of John Steinbeck, one of the most prominent American writers of the 20th century. The research applies a linguocultural and cognitive approach to analyze how motherhood is depicted through characters, narrative structures, and symbolic elements in Steinbeck’s major works, particularly The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden. The findings reveal that Steinbeck constructs the maternal figure not only as a biological entity but also as a moral, social, and cultural anchor. Furthermore, the study highlights how the representation of motherhood reflects broader American values such as resilience, sacrifice, and communal solidarity.
