The historical aspects of the development of physical education and sport in individual nations are examined. The analysis of the peculiarities of the formation of mass sport and the system of preparation of Olympic sport is given. The models of foreign sport are characterized. Some recommendations on the application of experience in the conditions of adaptation to reality and implementation of strategic objectives are presented.
