This article examines the formation of W. Anders's army in Uzbekistan. In August 1941, a Soviet-Polish military treaty was signed establishing the Polish Army in the USSR, with W. Anders, a former Gulag prisoner, appointed as its commander. Initially, the Polish army was planned for the Orenburg and Saratov regions, but by February 1942, six divisions were being transferred to Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. This article will examine the difficult fate of the Poles who found themselves in Uzbekistan and their adaptation to local conditions.
