The article examines the direction of the development of science and technology in the mid-1980s in the USSR in order to revive the socio-economic sectors, which was the main content of the perestroika policy, changes that occurred in the field of science and technology in the system of higher education in Uzbekistan, as well as in all scientific institutions of the republic, its role in public life, and the current state and problems of scientific research conducted in higher educational institutions.
