This article examines the peculiarities of the development of science in the period of increased political repression and centralized control in the Soviet Union. Although the Soviet system fostered significant advances in areas such as space exploration and nuclear physics, the inherent limitations of scientific freedom, ideological control, and emphasis on practical applications significantly influenced its scientific trajectory. The article analyzes the specific features of the development of science during the Soviet regime and proposes to look at the relationship between science and politics from a critical point of view. He emphasizes the need for a balance between state support and academic freedom to ensure scientific progress and intellectual progress.
