The article examines the formation of the public catering system in Uzbekistan under Soviet rule, its activities, the policy pursued in subsequent years, the material and technical support of the sphere, the existing problems and needs of the population in this regard. During the years of Soviet power, new directions appeared in the traditional activities of the catering system. Until the 40s of the XX century, the catering system was managed by several departments, which, in turn, played an important role in the diversity of prices and created conditions for the culture of providing services in catering establishments of different departments. However, even in the 70s and 80s of the twentieth century, the Soviet government took some measures to develop the catering system, but the scale of work could not satisfy the growing demands of the population at that time.
