The pedagogical significance of interactive methods in developing communicative competence in english language classes

Annotatsiya

The development of communicative competence has become one of thecentral objectives of modern English language teaching. In contemporary education, theability to use language effectively in real-life situations is considered more important thanthe mechanical memorization of grammar rules or isolated vocabulary items. This articleinvestigates the pedagogical significance of interactive methods in developing students’communicative competence in English language classes. The study discusses thetheoretical foundations of communicative competence, the role of learner-centeredinstruction, and the effectiveness of interactive methods such as pair work, groupdiscussion, role-play, problem-solving tasks, project-based learning, debates, andcommunicative games, methods support linguistic, sociolinguistic, discourse, andstrategic components of communicative competence. The results show that interactivemethods increase students’ motivation, reduce psychological barriers, improve fluency,encourage cooperation, and create conditions for meaningful communication. A smallanalytical table is included in the results section to demonstrate the pedagogical outcomesof selected interactive methods. The article concludes that the systematic use ofinteractive methods in English lessons is an important pedagogical factor in preparingstudents for effective oral and written communication in academic, professional, andsocial contexts.
