This article examines the concept, the basics of freeing a person from criminal liability, the scientific views of domestic and foreign scientists. Some legal aspects of improving the institution of exemption from criminal liability were also analyzed. Based on the analysis of the expressed opinions of scientists on the exemption from criminal liability of one of the institutions of criminal law, appropriate conclusions were drawn and proposals were developed.
