Differential diagnosis of benign and malignant tumors of the adrenal glands presents certain difficulties, since there is no specific histological criterion to differentiate tumors of the adrenal cortex with a malignant clinical course. Currently, several multiparametric systems for assessing the results of histopathological studies have been proposed to differentiate between benign tumors and adrenocortical carcinomas. The accuracy of one or another of the proposed systems remains a matter of debate. The article describes in detail various scales for assessing the likelihood of malignancy of adrenal tumors. The fundamental role of immunohistochemical studies using a sufficiently wide range of markers to complete the classical histological analysis is noted.
