Linguoculturology focuses primarily on the content side of proverbs and sayings, and in this regard, it uses data from other humanities. V. P. Anikin wrote "The content side is of interest to specialists of various profiles. Historians find in proverbs the customs of folk antiquity and echoes of ancient events; lawyers see in proverbs the reflection of the norms of customary law; the ethnographer, thanks to proverbs, gets an idea of the nature of already disappeared customs and orders; philologists, through proverbs, try to understand the features and structure of folk thinking; linguists see proverbs as the most valuable material for studying the nature and laws of human speech" [Anikin]. This judgment seems to us to be extremely fair. This article examines the research of interpretation of denotative or figuratively motivated aspects of the meaning of a language sign in the cultural categories of English and Russian languages.
