Annotatsiya

Positron emission tomography (PET) is one of the modern, highly informative radionuclide tomographic methods for examining internal human organs. PET enables comprehensive assessment of tumor spread, allows measurement of absolute activity within the examined organ, and provides quantitative evaluation of physiological processes. Work with radiopharmaceuticals involves close contact between the skin of the hands of medical personnel and ionizing radiation and is associated with significant surface radiation doses. Therefore, substantial radioactive exposure to the skin of the hands of personnel represents an important radiation protection issue in medical PET/CT centers. In this study, annual surface doses to the skin of the hands of nurses who performed dispensing of radiopharmaceuticals with specified activity and intravenous administration to patients were assessed. On average, these values ranged from 117 mSv to 250 mSv, which corresponds to the annual dose limit for the skin of the hands of 500 mSv in accordance with SanRaR No. 0193-06 “Radiation Safety Standards (NRB-2006) and Basic Sanitarian Rules for Radiation Safety (OSPORB-2006)”.
