According to the histochemical studies used in the study, no changes were observed in the number of goblet cells in the intestines during the study, but their number was higher in the distal section than in the proximal section. This is due to the higher number of bacteria in the distal section compared to the proximal section. Due to the changes, a decrease in the amount of mucins that are highly resistant to bacterial glycosides is associated with an increase in the incidence of inflammatory bowel disease in humans.
