Surface erosion of wind turbine blades, particularly leading-edge erosion, is a complex multiphysical processstrongly influenced by random environmental factors such as rainfall conditions, sand particle impacts, and coatingdefects, which can significantly reduce wind turbine efficiency. This study investigates the influence of sand particles onblade erosion through a review and analysis of most recent numerical and experimental articles. The results from numericaland experimental studies indicate that sand erosion can cause efficiency losses of over 44%, and demonstrate asignificant reduction in wind turbine performance under sand erosion conditions.
