Abstract. The article examines key strategies for mastering a foreign language, distinguishing between active and passive approaches. Special attention is given to the Ilya Frank reading method as a foundation for vocabulary acquisition, as well as techniques for effective word memorization and the role of context, drawing on the experience of polyglot Kato Lomb.
