This article explores the aesthetic and philosophical layers of the concept “love” in English Renaissance poetics, focusing on how major poets of the period – such as William Shakespeare, Edmund Spenser, Sir Philip Sidney, and John Donne – constructed a multidimensional understanding of love through artistic innovation and intellectual reflection. The study examines the interplay between Petrarchan conventions, Neoplatonic ideals, Christian morality, and humanist thought, demonstrating that Renaissance love poetry transcends simple emotional expression. Instead, love operates as a complex cultural symbol that integrates sensuous beauty with spiritual aspiration, personal desire with ethical responsibility, and individual experience with universal truths.
