This article analyzes the formation and development stages and principles of psycholinguistics as a science. It is highlighted that psycholinguistics, which arose on the basis of the study of the relationship between language and thought, initially appeared at the junction of linguistics and psychology, and became an independent scientific direction from the middle of the 20th century.
