Cultural and Linguistic Challenges in Translating Metaphors: Strategies and Implications for Cross-Cultural Communication

This article is devoted to the analysis of how linguistic and cultural factors affect metaphor translation ways, according to the seven translation strategies of metaphor translation proposed by Peter Newmark. The ways in which metaphors are translated according to the strategies are compared in three different languages; English, Russian. The study undertakes a comparative analysis of how metaphors are rendered in each language, meticulously considering the influence of both linguistic structures and cultural contexts. Each strategies are described in detail and provided with examples of translations in three languages. For each language the suitable strategy was found and discussed the reasons why it is so. Furthermore, the article contextualizes its findings by drawing upon relevant insights from previous scholarly investigations, creating a comprehensive understanding of the complex dynamics at play in metaphor translation. By synthesizing the research the aim was to find the challenges that occur while translating Uzbek metaphors and simultaneously comparing it with Russian way of translating.
